An international cellist’s journey

In words and music Robert tells his journey from the inspiration of hearing the cello in Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations at age 3 in the back of a Morris Minor, to studies with Jacqueline du Pré and Mstislav Rostropovich, his award winning recording of Elgar Cello Concerto and working with Yehudi Menuhin and the Amadeus Quartet. He tells of his collaborations with the worlds greatest conductors and the highs and lows of life on the road as a soloist while juggling family life. Now also an esteemed professor, lecturer and broadcaster - with a monthly radio show in the USA “On That Note”, Robert illustrates his philosophy of music education, communication and the gift of music in words and with his cello, the music of Bach, Brahms, Kodaly, Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky, Fauré and other composers that have marked his life.

Robert will be accompanied by pianist Daniel King Smith
